About ALS
ALS is a serious progressive neurological disease that affects the motor nerves and leads to atrophy of the muscles. Neither its cause nor a cure has yet been found. The Japan ALS Association was formed in 1986 as a support group (nonprofit association) for patients and their families, by a number of patients, family members, people who had lost loved ones to the disease, medical specialists, and members of the general public.
